Bristol … Brunel, Banksy and Shaun the Sheep; the best of Bristol as seen along the region’s ‘Shaun in the City’ trail

Shaun the Sheep is back. Baa-rilliant! This time he is in his native town of Baa-ristol (ok, enough of the baa puns for now). This Summer (2015), seventy Shaun in the City sculptures can be found across and beyond the largest city in south west England. In September they will join their fifty London cousins and be auctioned off in aid of the Wallace & Gromit Grand Appeal, raising money for the Bristol Children’s Hospital.

On my way to neighbouring Bath a few weeks ago, and having already located the fifty London Shaun in the City sculptures earlier this year (all of which can be seen here), I just had to pop into Bristol for a few hours and see how many sculptures I could find. As well as locating just over half of the seventy strong flock, I also found a huge outpouring of love and affection across the city for this fictional character. Just like its adopted sons Isambard Brunel and Banksy, Bristol is clearly very proud of locally based Aardman Animations’ woolly creation, and is not afraid to show it. Shaun is absolutely everywhere!

  1. Iris Day says:

You take such great photos – Shaun and the surroundings – and I still love your puns especially ‘friends, Romans, countrymen lend me your shears’! I saw all the London ones in situ and I’ve just been to Covent Garden and hopefully didn’t miss any of the Bristol ones. So sad it’s finished but I’ve bought the book. Thanks

  2. Victoria M says:

I love these trails! We had a rhino trail in Southampton, and the zebra trail is coming next year, too. Certainly helps to explore a city, and it’s a brilliant opportunity for local artists to showcase their work and businesses to gain some advertisement.

  3. Eleanor says:

Wow, you saw absolutely loads of them, you must have been everywhere! My favourite is the Pirate captain, his googly eyes and beard – love them!

So glad you enjoyed your visit to our awesome City!
